More about Dr. Giovanetti
I received my bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Behavior at the University of Notre Dame before going on to earn my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas (APA-accredited). I completed my APA-accredited internship at the Phoenix VA Healthcare System and most recently completed my postdoctoral fellowship at the San Diego Veterans Affairs/University of California, San Diego psychology training program, where I received additional specialized training in the treatment of PTSD.
My background as a generalist has provided me with extensive clinical and research experience across a wide range of concerns. This foundation allows me to effectively assess and support clients navigating diverse stressors and challenges. Throughout my training, I developed specialized expertise in trauma-focused therapies—such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Written Exposure Therapy—and it has been incredibly meaningful to see clients expand and re-engage with their lives and relationships through these treatments. I especially enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients, women, and Veterans to navigate systemic factors and stressors that may be impacting their well-being. I feel fortunate to work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and identities, and I value the opportunity to understand and honor the unique perspective each person brings to therapy. I strongly believe that everyone deserves access to effective and evidence-based care, and this belief guides my work in helping clients reconnect with the values and goals most important to them. The therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is so important in this process, and I strive to create a collaborative, trusting space where clients feel supported in taking meaningful steps toward change. Some of the most rewarding moments in my work come from helping people face challenges they once thought were impossible, such as confronting a painful memory, managing intense emotions, or building more fulfilling relationships. I take a whole-person approach that considers not only symptoms but also the broader context of each client’s life, relationships, and values.
Whether you are navigating a difficult life transition, working through past experiences, or seeking practical strategies for change, I am committed to working alongside you with care and respect. I aim to create a space where you feel understood, affirmed, and empowered to explore your experiences without judgment. In line with this, I value transparency and welcome open conversations about how my training and identity shape my approach and our work together.
